MY FIRST ANNIVERSARY

Can’t believe today marks an entire year of being married to my favorite.

Nothing seems more surreal to me than celebrating a full year of marriage.  It feels like just the other day that I was narrowing down plans for my wedding. Today has been such a reflective and emotional day for me.  Hamzeh and I took a mini anniversary trip to Charleston and spent the last two days revisiting our favorite places when I used to live there, and even got some time on the beach.  It was perfect, and it reminded me of the days where the idea of getting married seemed like such a distant dream.  Throughout all of our ups and downs this past year, I wouldn’t have wanted to experience them with anyone else.  Marriage teaches you so much about caring for another person, but it also teaches you so much about yourself.  It forces you to look at the person you are in the eyes of someone else.  It motivates you to always strive to become a better person.  And if you find the right one, the good stuff and the bad stuff just become part of the experience.  I am so thankful for the person I decided to do life with, and I hope this is just one of many, many more years together. Hamzeh, I love you. Thank you for always making me laugh, for treating my family as if they’re yours, and embracing all parts of the person I am. Happy one year anniversary.
