A MYKONOS TRIP

My summer trip to the islands of Mykonos, Greece.

My husband and I knew that we were going to take a trip the summer after we got married. There was one place we had our hearts set on, and that was to travel the islands of Greece. My last visit to this stunning country was back in 2004, and immediately after leaving I knew that I had to get back there again one day. Finally, who would have thought it would take me 14 years? Hence, I knew that exploring Mykonos would be such a fun and wild adventure. The last European trip I took was to Istanbul, Turkey so my body was pulsating for another vacation.

If I could do it all again, I would do it the same. We split six days up – 3 in Mykonos and the balance in Santorini (post coming soon). First of all, we took flights from Charlotte – New York – Athens. Then, our last stop to Mykonos. Thus, it was a journey but one well worth it.

The most noteworthy part of our trip was renting ATVs in both islands. Although you can get to where you want by foot, we were able to cruise around seamlessly. For instance, from the highest of mountains to the lowest of beaches, we did it without a tour guide. Every experience was on our own and as a result, it was thrilling getting lost and finding the way with every turn of the country. Navigating was easy thanks to the small street signs that have arrows pointing in which direction we wanted to go. Therefore, home was never too far away.

In conclusion… this was by far one of my favorite islands I will ever visit. And I hope to be back again. It’s safe to say a little part of me was left in this invigorating city.Pool at hotel Ilio Mare in Mykonos town

One of the best parts of our stay: the hotel is smack-dab in the middle of Mykonos town. We stayed at the very quaint Ilio Maris hotel. Specifically, if you’re looking to find a place with great hospitality and minimal style that’s just a few steps away from the hustle and bustle of the city’s center, this is the spot. In addition, restaurants and nightlife are just a few walks away, so you never have to worry about a commute. We adore the miniature balcony that comes with the standard room. Its view of the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea is absolutely phenomenal. Furthermore, spending your morning sun-bathing and taking a dip in their luxurious and hushed pool is an absolute must.
