A QUICK GETAWAY TO SAN DIEGO

Towards the end of 2016, Hamzeh and I were both in need of a major vacation. We had grown so accustomed to traveling once in the summer and once at the end of the year, that it was almost like we couldn’t fathom celebrating the new year in Charlotte. Time had gotten a hold of us and we were easing into a last minute trip (which was very stressful planning, by the way) and at the time Charlotte had been experiencing cold and rainy weather. We were in the mood to explore a new city, eat new foods, and smell some fresh air. 48 hours before traveling, we decided to head out to San Diego. I had been once before with my parents, but I was too young to appreciate the scenic views. We hopped on a late flight, and stayed for 5 days, and it was one of the most relaxation (and best) decisions we made as a couple. It was almost like we pressed the reset button and thoroughly enjoyed true quality time.

Bootlegger: brunch consists of chicken and waffles & mac & cheese
Bubs at the Ballpark: they have a whole menu dedicated to tater tots.
Saiko Sushi: some of the best sushi… ever.
The Good Stuff Co: cookies filled with cheesecake!
Square Cafe: unsweet ice cream covered in sugary cereal
Just wanted to add one snap shot of this cutie at brunch on the yacht. He bared with me as he took snap shots of me, and I took snap shots of everything. x

We spent an entire day on the island of Coronado, and visited the historic hotel of Hotel del Coronado. Not only is it where ‘Some Like it Hot’ was filmed, you can also ice skate while over looking the beach.

It’s so hard to make it out to San Diego and not stop by the World’s Best Zoo. They have two options: a safari park where you ride in a jeep or a walking zoo. We spent our entire afternoon walking around and admiring the animals. My absolute favorite was checking out the pandas.

On our last day in San Diego, we made it out to La Jolla beach. It was by far the best part of our trip. We rented bikes and rode through the mountains and along the beach side. We stopped and admired the beautiful seals and even tried one of the best gelato spots in town. When in La Jolla, you must try Cody’s La Jolla and order the lobster roll. It is made on thick Texas toast, and gives you that New England flavor right along the coast line. Bobboi Gelato was a pitstop as we were riding bikes, and the pistachio and hazelnut flavors are to-die-for.
