NEW YORK EATS PART 2
New York is always an adventure, and when it comes to food, it’s almost like the head quarters for brain storming the newest trends.
Decisions aren’t really my strong suit, so imagine being placed in an area like New York where the food options are never-ending. I do my best to go prepared with a list of places compiled from word of mouth, articles, and TV shows, and I leave always wishing I had extra time to try everything else out too. Last September, I listed some of my favorite places from my trip. We tried to steer away from some of the places we always visit (it was so hard!), but in the end it was worth all of the new places we got to experience.

I’m going to be honest and say that I’m not the biggest fan of doughnuts. My love resides in macarons, cupcakes, and croissants, but spending time in NYC changed something. Holey Doughnuts is a LOW FAT (!?) gourmet doughnut shop. And they can fill doughnuts with ICE CREAM (!?) It was so tempting to step inside, that we went right after our extremely plentiful brunch. With that said, the star of my doughnut show is Doughnut Plant & their oatmeal doughnut. I’ve been to this place possibly 4 times now, and I can never find an excuse to not revisit when I go back to New York. Their oatmeal doughnut is filled with dried cranberries (and I don’t even care much for cranberries) and it’s literally the best doughnut I’ve ever had in my life. Pretty much it made a non-doughnut lover, a lover of doughnuts. So try it.

(212) 226-0211There is a place in SoHo that only sells mac + cheese. As we were walking around, we were really confused on whether or not this macbar was real. The menu consists of 12 items, all made to order (which means 15 minute waits for to-go orders). The result of the hot and creamy side dish was worth it. We ordered a small, four cheese and we couldn’t get ourselves to stop eating.
270 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10012
(212) 625-1717This is for the coffee lovers who are over franchises and prefer real, fresh ground, strong coffee. There are 3 locations all around New York, and the minute you enter, the smell of coffee can immediately wake you up. Just a warning: syrups and fun fraps don’t exist here, so try and stick with cappuccinos or lattes. (Ice cappuccino pictured above).
1475 2nd Ave, Manhattan, NY 10021
(212) 717-4668Let’s be really tourist-y for a minute. My sister found this place on a whim, and we were in a rush to prepare for a fashion show. I’m sure all New York bagels are great, but this placed surprised us with all of our topping options (including salmon & eggs), and their variety of cream cheese. It’s a great place to ‘pick up a bagel’ when you’re spending some time around Times Square or 5th Ave.
1 Doyers St, New York, NY 10013
(212) 791-1817This place has been on our to-do list for the past few trips we’ve taken to New York. It’s hidden away in Chinatown, and the ‘cover’ of the restaurant is not as enticing as we imagined it to be. This is a hole in the wall restaurant that probably seats a maximum of 20. The moment we sat down, we were overwhelmed by the menu, and weren’t sure of how to even begin ordering. Our skepticism subsided when we took a peek into the kitchen and saw a very talented man hand-pulling noodle dough. We ordered 2 different kind of noodles, and the results were perfection.
This is the equivalent to a frozen yogurt bar, but with Greek yogurt. Options include sweet, savory, and seasonal combinations of yogurt and toppings. It’s an ideal place to pick up breakfast, or an afternoon pick-me-up. I loved the fig + walnut creation.
42 Grove St, New York, NY 10014
(212) 255-3590On our last day in NYC, we wanted to roam the streets of Greenwich Village. We came by this lovely cafe that is only located in New York and France. The moment you step in, you feel as if you’re transported to Paris, and are surrounded by classic waiters serving elegant drinks and meals. We pretty much ordered everything on the menu, but my favorite of them all was the avocado toast topped with cucumbers and spiced yogurt.

This restaurant is located in Chelsea, and is the home of Carrie and Mr. Big’s rehearsal dinner. The interior is breathtaking with beautiful vases and extravagant chandeliers. The food is of Chinese/Asian fusion with options from hot and cold appetizers to a variety of noodle and rice dishes. It’s not so easy to get a reservation (especially during New York Fashion Week), but we were lucky enough to get one around 10 pm. (Pictured above: Charred Filet of Beef & Szechuan Dan Dan Noodles)
This puts a new spin on pizza. Artichokes drenched in cream sauce on top of homemade dough. This business was opened by cousins, and gives you the NY pizza joint feel that everyone wants to experience. If you’re a tomato lover, just add a side of marinara sauce for dipping.

I don't do donuts. I used to love them then Krispy Kreme hit Australia and after eating a glazed donut I've never been able to eat any kind again. It was that bad lol. I do love the idea of gourmet kinds. I think they need to be reinvented like the croissant was. Also noting that Mac + Cheese place. I'm not a fan of the stuff either hahaha but I can appreciate some made to order creative kinds. When I think of Mac + Cheese I think of cheap boxed packages!
