Louis Vuitton S/S’14
‘This collection is dedicated to the women who inspire me
and to the showgirl in all of us”
– Marc Jacobs
Who knew these words could be so powerful?
The shot heard ’round the world – or in this case, the shot heard ’round the fashion world went viral this morning during the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2014 execution as rumors were confirmed that after 16 years, Marc Jacobs is to leave as the Creative Director of Louis Vuitton.
Marc Jacobs is leaving Louis Vuitton?
How could this be?
After timeless and extraordinary direction going on and off the
runway for so many years, it is definitely going to be hard not to see
Marc’s exquisite influence and designs for this fashion house.
Looking back on all of these years, Marc had definitely made his mark (no pun intended) on this iconic brand. I mean, how could anyone forget the huge carousel from the Spring/Summer 2012 collection?
Or the extravagant escalator display of Spring/Summer 2013?
Oh, and we cannot forget all of the supermodels he has sent down the runway in LV…
Such as Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.
In the show’s program, Marc actually mentioned a few people who has inspired him
throughout the years, and Kate Moss was one of them.
Other people included Vivienne Westwood, Miuccia Prada, and Judy Garland.
The attractions of these runway collections along with the pieces will be
permanently stapled in my mind, and I’m sure the minds of you all as well.
All in all, it was a wonderful ride with Louis Vuitton these past few years.
The Spring/Summer 2014 collection was a very dark one;
with the garments being all black with fabulous touches of accents, and the floor being lacquered black.
I’m not much into literature, but from hearing the news, I assume that it represents a time for mourning,
a farewell and final goodbye to Louis Vuitton.
The centerpiece of the runway showing a glorious spitting water fountain…
maybe representing the tears of sadness, yet joy and happiness at the same time.
Nevertheless, the collection itself is described to be biker chic, edgy, yet sexy all at the same time.
When the first model came out, it was a bittersweet feeling.
She came out in a fishnet suit, covered in the ever so popular Louis Vuitton graffiti
that was famous all around the world. It represented the collaboration Marc did
with fashion designer Stephen Sprouse, who was famous for his techno-graffiti designs.
The rest of the models came out in embellished pieces and elaborate feathered head pieces.
I actually thought it was brilliant that Marc Jacobs tied in such detailed and exuberant jackets with the classic American style – just a pair of good ole jeans.
Now that was something that definitely screamed MARC JACOBS to me,
but also tying in LOUIS VUITTON.
And now, my favorites from the memory-making collection:
And here he is, his final appearance as creative director of Louis Vuitton.
Looking handsome and as sharp as ever in a classic, clean cut black suit,
and his signature sneakers to pair it off with.
Even though I’m sad about this, I am very excited to see Marc Jacobs’ actual fashion house vamp up its name as I know he will be solely focusing on it in the future.
What did you think of the collection,
and are you sad about Marc’s departure?
